Allergies
The modern
Western diet and way of life can undermine the immune system of
susceptible people, causing a wide variety of "allergic" symptons,
and many more conditions which do not respond to conventional
treatments. The tendency to run in families is very high, and
the physical symptons can often severely affect the quality of
life of the sufferer.
Acute food
allergy is where the reaction is almost immediate and the cause
obvious eg. Peanut allergy. Symptons include acute swelling of
the tongue, mouth and throat in very severe cases.
Milder reactions
may involve just a slight tingling on the tongue or in the mouth
after eating apples or stoned fruit. Other food allergies can
affect almost any part of the body giving rise to diseases such
as eczema, asthma and urticaria.
If the symptons
of an allergy appear slowly, such as asthma, glue ear, constant
nasal congestion and nettle rash , the culprit food is often something
that the patient may have eaten daily for years without realizing
the connection.
Food allergens
can be absorbed into the blood and carried to any part of the
body. Theses blood-borne allergens can react with mast cells in
any susceptible organ. In some patients the reaction may take
place after exercise and after also eating the culprit food, a
condition called exercise -induced urticaria exercise-induced
asthma. |
